CO2 savings for aviation through innovative plastic solutions: DEMGY presents new technologies

Press release

DEMGY at the Aircraft Interiors Expo: Hall B6, Booth 6B/88B

The DEMGY Group, a technology group specializing in innovative plastics processing, will provide an insight into its extensive portfolio of intelligent technologies and components for aircraft interiors at the Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX, April 8-10). DEMGY's high-performance plastic and composite solutions are lighter than metal, enabling significant energy and CO2 savings. In Hall B6, Booth 6B/88B, visitors can also get an overview of the company's unique circular Multiplasturgy® offer: a one-stop store combining 15 areas of expertise and forming the basis of DEMGY's circular eco-design approach.

Innovative solutions for the aerospace industry at six international locations

Supported by three R&D centers, the DEMGY Group is dedicated to the development and processing of high-performance engineering polymers and composites for the aerospace industry at its sites in France (Normandy, Atlantique), the USA (Chicago), Romania (Făgăraş) and Germany (Lemgo and Euskirchen). In addition to all relevant certifications, the team draws on extensive expertise in the areas of injection moulding, machining, extrusion and deep drawing as well as autoclave technology and mould making, metallization and surface treatment. From the development, design and manufacture of high-precision parts to their assembly and maintenance, the DEMGY Group is able to offer aircraft manufacturers and airlines around the world tailor-made solutions from a single source - from wear, fastening and friction parts to components for cockpit controls and cabin equipment such as window frames, signs, cabin dividers, seat elements, fire panels and emergency tools.

circular Multiplasturgy®: a closed-loop model for the industry

The DEMGY Group's unique circular Multiplasturgy® offer is a one-stop store that combines 15 areas of expertise in the processing of high-performance polymers and composites. circular Multiplasturgy® includes eco-design, end-of-life management and the recyclability of products. The aim is an infinite cycle in the end-of-life and recyclability of products are already taken into account in the design phase.

High potential savings in costs, weight and CO2 emissions for aviation

DEMGY EIS specializes in individual parts and components for aircraft interiors at two locations in Germany. One focus is on the redesign of metallic structures into lighter, more cost-effective plastic parts and the optimization of existing plastic components.

Today, many parts and components made of metal are still used in aviation. These are cost-intensive to manufacture and also significantly increase the energy consumption of aircraft due to their weight. DEMGY EIS solutions have comparable performance characteristics to metal products, but are many times lighter. This results in significant energy savings over the entire life cycle - which has a considerable impact on the CO2 footprint in the energy-intensive aviation industry.

At AIX in Hamburg, visitors to the DEMGY EIS booth can look forward to new mobile elements for separating cabins, among other things: the company can produce the "Movable Class Dividers" in various customized versions for different cabins, including, most recently, for the Airbus 320 Enhanced Cabin.

The certified "MCDs" from DEMGY EIS are considerably lighter than traditional industry-standard room dividers and take up very little space. They can be moved by the cabin crew in a few simple steps, depending on how busy the aircraft is. For this purpose, interfaces are installed at each position into which a quick-change fastener can be inserted. The modern design concept of the Movable Class Divider allows the attachment of a transparent or colored plastic panel as well as curtains and is therefore open to all branding options.

Airlines benefit from the flexible and easy installation of Movable Class Dividers, while passengers benefit from a more open feeling of space, visibility and legroom.

Cross-location synergies

The DEMGY Group's wide range of innovative production processes includes the selective metallization of individual components as well as 3D additive manufacturing, both of which are part of L'Atelier 3D developed by DEMGY Normandie. Selective metallization improves the conductive properties, increases the mechanical or chemical potential of surfaces and gives them functionality.

Stamping processes for composite materials with a thermoplastic matrix for large-scale production are one of the main focuses of DEMGY Atlantique, while DEMGY Chicago has special expertise in the field of high-performance thermoplastic injection molding.

With the DEMGY Group, OEMs, suppliers and airlines can benefit from cross-location synergies between the subsidiaries DEMGY EIS, DEMGY Normandie, DEMGY Atlantique, DEMGY Romania and DEMGY USA, which focus on the aviation sector - and thus from a unique variety of skills in the production of customized and individual solutions from a single source.

At the Aircraft Interiors Expo, the DEMGY Group will be exhibiting in Hall B6, Booth 6B/88B as part of the 1,500 m2 Hanse-Aerospace joint stand.
