Technological development of Cryzal optical lenses
Discover the collaboration between Cryzal and DEMGY Normandie in the technological development of optical lenses that secure every “singular point” on our roads. These lenses, which are triggered only in the event of danger, ensure both safety and energy efficiency. Daniel Bemer, President of Cryzal, explains how the co-creation and ingenuity of the partnership with DEMGY enhance our daily safety.
Cryzal, a specialist in dynamic lighting solutions for road safety, has relied on DEMGY Normandie's expertise since 2009 to manufacture its optical lenses.
Based in Val-de-Reuil (Eure) since its creation in 2006, Cryzal designs and implements dynamic lighting solutions to enhance road safety. The aim of Cryzal's customers (communes, communities of communes, communities of agglomerations, departmental councils, interdepartmental road directorates, freeway companies) is to make what are known as “singular points” safer.
“These include traffic circles, dangerous curves, right-of-way and crosswalks.
Whether horizontal, i.e. on the ground, or vertical, dynamic light signals are triggered only when needed, thanks to the presence of sensors. This has two advantages: it draws the driver's attention to the presence of a hazard, and it saves energy when signalling is not necessary.
Presided over by Daniel Bemer, Cryzal is the only company in France to meet 100% of its customers' needs, offering a tailor-made solution that takes into account all project characteristics: size, layout configuration (paving, asphalt), geometry (straight line, plateau, curve), level break, presence or absence of nearby street lighting...
Half of Cryzal's customers are located throughout France, and 50% of projects are international.
The Cryzal & DEMGY Normandie partnership began in 2009
In the early days of its business, Cryzal designed reflective technical studs. With the evolution of technology, the company has constantly improved its products, culminating today in a lens containing an optical system applied to an LED.
In 2009, in order to deploy its very first dynamic lighting solutions, Cryzal sought an industrial partner to help it design and manufacture optical lenses that would deliver both high performance in terms of luminosity and the ability to withstand dense road traffic, comprising both cars and heavy goods vehicles. As an expert company in plastic injection, DEMGY Normandie has become Cryzal's partner for the realization of this project.
Daniel Bemer recalls: “ It was 2009, and we were looking for an industrial partner specializing in plastic injection molding. Geographical proximity was - and still is - a very important criterion for us. As important as the quality of the relationship and the human link. We're French and Normandy at heart - that's our DNA! That's how we came to work for DEMGY Normandie, which was then called Dedienne Multiplasturgy® Group.
The very first lens was made with DEMGY in 2010, followed by new versions in 2012, 2018 and 2023.
The new lens version 2023 is a completely autonomous module with an integrated sealing system and electronic board. DEMGY's expertise in designing plastronics—smart plastic parts that combine plastics and electronics—demonstrates the group's capacity for innovation.
DEMGY manufactures the polycarbonate cap on a 200T press. This cover is fitted onto the aluminum shell, along with the LED support. During the prototyping phase, DEMGY Normandie used its DEMGY 3D Workshop to manufacture prototype covers in PA11, a bioplastic produced from castor oil.
“Today, the DEMGY Normandie teams are a real source of ideas in the development and manufacture of our products. We can certainly speak of co-creation for the development of a new lens model: at Cryzal we design the lens with its optical and mechanical problems. DEMGY Normandie contributes its expertise, anticipates technical issues and takes care to provide solutions, with the support of its design office and after-sales service. DEMGY Normandie is present at every stage of manufacturing and product life, and we particularly appreciate this local support,” explains Daniel Bemer.
Every year, DEMGY Normandie manufactures several hundred cap lenses for Cryzal. This medium-scale production enables Cryzal to have its products manufactured on demand and according to its needs, without any storage problems.
Year | 2020 | 2021 | 2022 | 2023 | |
Number of parts manufactured |

“At Cryzal, we need a partner who knows us, our requirements, our specificities with regard to the product, the market and our customers, so that they can support us and help us with our expertise. In addition to having all this, the DEMGY Normandie teams are also very responsive and available, which is very reassuring for us”, concludes Daniel Bemer.
